A few months back, Ed and I were talking with Nate and he expressed that he now knows what he wants to do for the rest of his life... (WOWIE!!! Pretty deep for a 10 year old! :) ) He wants to go to Syracuse University for their Sports Writing program.. to get into either sports stats or sports writing or something like that.

A Closer Look at Kyle Snyder
By: Nate Walker
2009 Buffalo Bisons opening day starting pitcher, Kyle Snyder, has had a great career so far. This righty has been playing professionally for ten years, possesses a World Series ring and has been a role model for kids across America.
Snyder was born on September 9, 1977 in Houston, Texas. His favorite player was San Francisco Giant Will Clark. Snyder graduated from high school in 1996 and was drafted by the Devil Rays in the amateur draft. However, he chose to go to UNC at Chapel Hill. While at college, this 6’8” giant also played golf, basketball, and swam. In 1998, he was drafted 7th overall by the KC Royals.
Between 1999 and 2008, “The Big Snyd” has had his share of ups and downs playing for 10 different clubs. He pitched in the majors for two full seasons where he won a World Series ring with the 2007 Boston Red Sox. When asked, Kyle’s least favorite part about being a baseball player is traveling and being away from family. His idol is his Dad. Kyle carries on the tradition of being an idol for many because of his success as a ballplayer and his kindness toward fans and kids.

A very dear friend of ours (Aunt Mim) nominated Nate to take part in a program set up by the Buffalo News and the Buffalo Bisons. Nate was selected to participate and was given the necessary information. Basically, he and 26 other kids age 8 - 15 were invited to a Bison's game where he went down early and met with the sports writers from the Buffalo News. They talked to the kids about what their job entailed and how to conduct an interview. After that, he was able to interview one of the Bison's. He was ecstatic when he found out he was interviewing Kyle Snyder... an ex Red Sox player and World Series ring holder with the Sox. He took notes during the interview and then had to come home and write the article. The article had to be submitted 5 days later to the news. They collected all of the articles and 5 of them were chosen to be published in the newspaper.
YES... you guessed it... Nate's article was chosen to be published!!!!!!!! In today's paper!!!!!!!! So incredibly cool!!!
Below is a picture of the newspaper article. There is no link because it is one of the... ahem.... smaller sort of articles.... but none the less... an article.
We are so proud of him!
